We have teamed up with Worcestershire Cricket to offer free seated cricket at three of our community hubs across the city.

The seated cricket sessions; designed to improve participants’ physical health, hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and body strength; are perfect for people with less mobility who are looking to add some movement into their day.

The initiative has been implemented by our wellbeing team, through our Community Connectors sessions and our Snack & Chat lunch clubs for the over 50s at Tolly Hub in Tolladine, Ronkswood Hub and The Green Hub in Dines Green.

Ceri Grant, Wellbeing Manager at WCT is really pleased with the response the sessions have had so far:

“We wanted to offer something a bit different to our local residents and clients over the summer period to getting people moving and socialising together.

“I’m so pleased with the reaction we have had so far from those taking part.

“There were definitely a few people who were unsure what to expect to begin with, but now everyone is really enjoying getting involved, including the staff!

“The sessions are an informal and fun way for people to take part in some gentle exercise which we know can have such a positive impact on our mental wellbeing.

“The team from Worcestershire Cricket have been a total pleasure to work with; they are fantastic at getting everyone involved and making the sessions fun for all.”

Elsa-Marie Evans, Community Development Manager at Worcestershire Cricket who has worked with Ceri to get the sessions up and running commented:

“Thanks to Sport England funding received through Active Herefordshire & Worcestershire, we have been able to team up with WCT to deliver our seated cricket programme across Worcester.

“The seated cricket sessions are great; they’re fun, engaging and a lovely way to get in some gentle exercise. The perfect way to encourage people who have been less active to get active again!

“We’ve been loving the sessions at the WCT hubs, we’ve seen plenty of smiles and had plenty of laughter. We hope to continue to decrease the local levels of inactivity and social isolation through our sessions. The sessions encourage a lot of interaction between participants and staff, we even break for a brew!

Come on down and give it a go!”

The sessions are free to attend, and no booking is required. They are running on Mondays at Tolly Hub on Rowan Avenue 10-11am, on Tuesdays at The Green Hub on Gresham Road 1.30-2.30pm and on Thursdays at Ronkswood Hub on Canterbury Road 1.30-2.30pm until the end of the summer.
