Our youth team have had a busy summer running our popular Kids Play school summer holiday play program for 8 to 11 year olds.
The program, which is free for children in receipt of benefits related free school, ran from two of our community hubs – The Green Hub in Dines Green, and KGV Hub in Brickfields, and was funded via HAF Worcestershire.
Just under 100 children attended the program across the first three weeks of the summer holidays. Lisa Craven, Youth & Play Manager at WCT delivered the programme with her team of youth workers and volunteers.
“It’s been a real pleasure running our Kids Play programme again this year with lots of children attending from our term-time youth provision, as well as lots of new faces. All of the children got really involved and our team of staff and volunteers did an amazing job of making sure the program was enjoyable for all.
“We always try to bring as many different activities as we can into the programme, using local providers. This summer we were happy to partner again with Animal Mania, DanceFest, Drumlove, Fizzpop Science, Fuzzy Concepts Graffiti Art and Worcestershire Cricket, all of whom provided fantastic experiences for the young people attending. A big thank you to everybody who attended the program and helped to deliver it.”
The team also ran a week of youth activities for 11 to 16 year olds during the holidays, including a free graffiti art and Severn Arts workshop, day trips to ten pin bowling and Malvern Ice Quest, a youth football tournament and fun day at it’s KGV Hub in Brickfields. All of these of activities were free or low cost, enabling more than 70 young people within the local community to get involved.
From this week our youth sessions for 11-17 year olds will be back up and running from 6pm-8pm at The Green Hub (Gresham Road) on Wednesdays, at Horizon Hub (Midland Road) for boys only on Thursdays and at KGV Hub (Ash Avenue) on Fridays. There will also be ‘Mini youth’ sessions for 7-10 year olds running from 4pm-5.30pm on the same days, as well as a session for 11-17 year old girls at Horizon Hub on Saturdays 12-2pm.
New members are always welcome, for a small fee of £1 per session per young person.
