We are delighted to announce the launch of a series of FREE football training sessions for young people aged 13-16 years on Warndon playing fields this Summer.

The free training is being delivered by the Matt Tally Player Development Centre (MTPD) whose experienced coaches tailor each session to meet the needs of the players. Through engaging drills, games, and activities, players will not only have the opportunity to improve their technical abilities, but also to gain valuable life skills such as discipline, communication, and resilience.

The sessions are open to young people of all abilities, (boys and girls) aged 13-16 years and are taking place on the Warndon playing fields, adjecent to Warndon Hub on Shap drive, on Thursdays from 4.30pm – 6.00pm. The sessions started on Thursday 5 June, and will run right through the Summer to September. There is no need to book, young people can just turn up and play on the day.

The sessions have been made possible following Worcester Community Trust’s successful bid for a Youth Innovation Grant from Public Health Worcestershire. Jenny Gage, Head of Community-Based Services at Worcester Community Trust said:

“We are delighted to be able to support these free training sessions for young people in the local area and we hope as many young people as possible can benefit from the sessions. The team at MTPD are really focused on deepening their roots within the local community and supporting young people to not only develop their football skills, but also their communication skills, their resilience and their mindset. We are thrilled to be partnering with them for these sessions”

The return of the coaching sessions follows a successful spring trial of free football sessions which involved a team effort between Worcester Community Trust (WCT), Healthy Worcestershire, Mark Tally Player Development and Warndon and Elbury Park councillors Jill Desayrah and Ed Kimberley, all of whom have played their parts in getting football back on the pitch.

Parents, carers and the local community are urged to spread the word.

MTPD have recently moved to a new permanent home at KGV Hub on Ash Avenue, Brickfields Road. Read more here.
