A new service has opened at Worcester Community Trust to support young people in Worcester navigate their way into the world of work.

Whether a person is currently unemployed, NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training), or just needs a bit of a confidence boost to get started, the service is designed to help them find and take their next steps.

Helena Maggs, our new Pathways Mentor says her ultimate goal is to bridge the gap between where a person is now and where they want to be.

“When you are 16 or over, the transition into work or training can feel like a lot to handle. Whether people have a clear goal or no idea where to start, I am here to help.

“My sessions are one-to-one, meaning I can really get to know people and go at a pace that’s right for them.

“I will meet with people to discuss what their interests are, and how these could be matched to real world jobs or training opportunities. I will provide practical support with applications, CVs and training opportunities; as well as one-on-one coaching to really give people the confidence to take their next steps.

“I can also support people with maintaining their employment, or with exploring a new path if their current situation isn’t working out.”

Helena’s work as a Pathways Mentor compliments the existing work of our welfare team, who have just relaunched their service and are running weekly Community Information and Support drop-ins for residents at Tolly Hub on Mondays, Horizon Hub on Tuesdays, The Green Hub on Wednesdays and Ronkswood Hub on Fridays from 10am-4pm.

The team support local residents with improving their wellbeing, managing their finances including support around energy bills and benefit checks/applications, and with employability skills such as overcoming barriers to work, writings CVs and interview skills to help people who are working towards training or employment.
