Our Domestic Abuse Champions Project, which has been running since April 2022 has fully trained more than 130 Domestic Abuse Champions as of August 2025.
The project which covers the entirety of Worcestershire (North and South), reaches a diverse range of hard-to-hear communities such as the LGBTQ+ community, ethnic minorities, religious groups, those struggling with their mental health, the disabled community, the BAME community and asylum seekers.
Domestic Abuse Champions are trained free of charge in the following subjects and are given a resource pack, certificates, badge and DBS check, with the opportunity of support from Community Engagement lead. Their role is to help recognise victims of domestic abuse within their community and provide them with the correct details of support options available in Worcestershire.
Training modules include:
- Understanding DA, risk assessment and safety planning
- DA Safeguarding, info sharing and confidentiality
- Professional Boundaries and Self-Care
Since April 2022 there have been:
- 2992 conversations around domestic abuse
- 562 Individuals signposted to services
- 180 referrals to support DA victims and survivors
Two Worcester Community Trust hubs are also now ‘safe spaces’ for victims of domestic abuse, and Worcester Community Trust staff have been trained in domestic abuse as part our White ribbon actions for ending Violence Against Women and Girls.
To celebrate the amazing milestone of recruiting more than 100 champions, the team are holding a special celebratory event for all of it’s Champions during November, to coincide with White Ribbon Day and the 12 Days of Activism.
