After the success of our ‘Big Stew’ events over the past couple of years, our Snack & Chat lunch clubs have now expanded into two Worcester retirement villages; Himbleton House in St Johns and Chelmsford Court, in partnership with Platform Housing.
The lunch clubs offer a freshly cooked two-course meal for the over 50s, running from 12.00 – 1.30pm each week and costing £5 per person. Throughout the year the team also put on special events such a Cream Teas and Christmas parties as well as optional day trips to local towns and villages such as Ludlow and Stratford.
Recently the team put on a VE Day Celebration at Chelmsford Court which 40 people attended and enjoyed. Sharon Amos, Snack & Chat Project Manager shared:
“There was lots of singing in the room and even a few tears having recently lost two of our long-standing Snack & Chat members. I think it was quite an emotional day for us all but there was a lot of love in the room, great food & homemade cake too.
“We are so proud of all the volunteers who have worked so hard cooking and serving these nutritious meals.
“Our partnership work with Platform is of real benefit to our local communities, enabling us to widen our reach and bring Snack & Chat to new members of the community.
“Our heartfelt thanks go out to all those involved; including Cadent Gas who fund the Snack & Chat project”.
Around 25 people are attending the lunch clubs each week, with some residents travelling from Tolladine to join in. The initiative is expected to serve around 2,400 meals over the next year.
Paul Edwards, Community Engagement Officer at Platform Housing, said:
“These lunch clubs are about much more than food; they help tackle loneliness, build friendships and create a real sense of belonging, which is what community is all about.”
