Worcester Community Trust, a local charity serving those in need in Worcestershire, has begun working towards its second launch of the OWLL initiative following a successful initial 5 months.
Funded by The People’s Health Trust and beginning in September 2019, the OWLL programme (Older Wiser and Loving Life) welcomes over 50’s in the Ronkswood and surrounding qualifying areas for a number of different activities each month.
Activities for attendees include the Meet and Eat sessions; delivering freshly prepared two-course meals twice monthly on Tuesday’s from 12pm-2pm for £3.50, Coffee Bingo and Quiz mornings on Wednesday’s from 10.30am until 12.30pm, and on Friday’s, Line dancing followed by coffee and cake for £2.50.
Following on from the commencement of the Community Connectors programme, which was created to give people somewhere to ‘socialise over a cuppa’, the Trust aims to deliver the services to at least 80% of the eligible postcodes in the Ronkswood area.
CEO of Worcester Community Trust, Ruth Heywood, said this about the OWLL project: “At Worcester Community Trust we try our best to provide initiatives that are led by local residents, and activities for residents of all ages. We’re extremely proud of the work we’ve been able to achieve for the OWLL programme and hope to continue long into the future.”
Residents were able to enjoy these activities from September 2019 and they will be continued into at least September 2020, when funding is due for review.
A second steering group meeting has been organised for February 2020 to evaluate the sessions that are currently running, and to discuss the possibility of new projects and activities for the next quarter.
