What a difference a day makes!
A cleaner, brighter path to the Building Block workshop at Worcester Community Trust has been created thanks to Onside’s Swap and Share community Timebank project.
Building Block at Worcester Community Trust are a member of Onside’s Swap & Share scheme and put in a request to have the entrance to their popular workshop made more attractive and welcoming for visitors. The plot is overlooked by Oasis Warndon satellite children’s centre and the children love watching the resident squirrels feeding from their left overs. The make over means they will not only have a better view but also a safe space to ride their scooters!
The Ground Force day was organised by Sue Stanley, Swap and Share Co-ordinator. Thanks to Andrew Cole of Lloyds Bank’s Give and Gain a Day scheme a team of Lloyds Bank employees spent a gloriously sunny day pruning back the hedge row and trees, sprucing up the existing planters, planting donated plants, clearing, organising the building materials and generally tidying up. “Its been a great day, “ said Andrew. “We can really see the difference our efforts have made. I really hope the children at the centre will enjoy the new view and space to play.”
“Huge thanks are due to Webbs of Wychbold, Blackpole Homebase, Wickes, Warndon Tesco Community Champion, Worcester City Council Cleaner & Greener Parks Department and Malvern Cube who all donated plants, paint and equipment to help brighten up the space. We couldn’t have done it without their support” said Sue Stanley, Swap and Share Co-ordinator.
“I am delighted to support this fantastic example of partnership working between local businesses, voluntary and community organisations and local people,” said Cllr Paul Denham, Mayor of Worcester, who visited the volunteers to show their support with his wife Cllr Lynne Denham . “It shows just what can be achieved if everyone gives a little of what they can – whether that’s time, skill or plants!”.

Feedback from Andy to his team
“Thank you all for your contribution. Everybody worked really hard including a strenuous footie match at half time lunch. I personally think it is the best one we have done from a point of view of the transformation that was visible from morning to afternoon. The pictures show that too.
I found it very rewarding to see the difference we had made – it fully lived up to the title ‘make a difference day’ – I was warmed by the obvious appreciation shown of what we had achieved. It was nice to go home after a rewarding beer feeling appreciated.
I know that earlier in the week, we all would have been thinking ‘I could do without this’ as we are all so very busy but every one of you put everything into it and I am sure like me you will agree that it was a very rewarding day
Many thanks for your support
