With the lead up to The Great Get Together weekend, which runs over the weekend of the 16th-18th June it was great to be contacted by the Eden Project Community Team to ask if we would be interested in getting involved with The Great Big Walk.

If you didn’t know, The Great Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox MP, who was killed on 16 June last year. Jo’s family and friends came up with the initiative, and The Big Lunch teamed up with the Jo Cox Foundation to create an annual celebration. More than one hundred organisations are now supporting the Foundation.

In the lead up to the weekend which also includes the Great Lunch, The Eden Project have come up with the idea of the Great Big Walk which involves 15 walkers over 21 days taking 5 routes but all starting from Batley in West Yorkshire and heading to various parts of the UK.

We didn’t hesitate in welcoming the walkers to the KGV Community Hub on behalf of all six Worcester Community Trust Hub’s, who were walked in by The Warndon Walkers (a walking group who meet every Thursday at the Warndon Hub). The walkers were given a warm Worcester welcome (in the pouring rain) by the new Mayor of Worcester who was joined by the leader of Worcester City Council Adrian Gregson and local Councillor Joy Squires.

It was a great opportunity to introduce the Project Team as well as the new Mayor to the great work that is carried out by Worcester Community Trust and it was also a great opportunity to learn more about the Eden Project.

We have made a brief video of the visit, which we hope you enjoy.
