This Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment qualification is for learners wishing to apply for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme Green Card.

The CSCS Green Card is intended for those working in labouring occupations only. Since July 2014 CSCS has introduced a new requirement for applicants to achieve a formal knowledge based qualification, the ‘Health and Safety in a Construction Environment’ Award. Achievement of this award will demonstrate the applicant understands of key issues affecting safe working practices on UK construction sites.

This qualification is for learners wishing to qualify for the CSCS UK Ltd Green Card to access construction sites in the UK as a non-skilled worker.

The Building Block delivers this course over five weeks with learners attending one day a week for training, the course consists of theoretical and practical learning in the construction environment order to pass the online test.


As this is a funded course learners should be unemployed and have proof of this when they attend the course.

On successful completion of the online test learners will be issued a certificate from city and guilds which in combination of the successful completion of the CSCS test will enable learners to apply for the green CSCS card.
