Worcester Community Trust, the communities we serve, along with the whole country have been through the most unprecedented of times in the past 4 months. As lockdown begins to ease we reflect on what has been a challenging time for the charitable sector and we start looking forward and planning for the ‘new normal’.
The lockdown presented us with a challenge that we never thought we’d face – the closing of our community centre doors and the loss of a lifeline for many of our clients and communities that we support. In response, we rapidly developed and mobilised our care package project alongside our usual service delivery – providing weekly wellbeing phone calls, food/care parcels and freshly prepared meals for those individuals and families who were self-isolating, shielding or just need in need of extra support. To date we have distributed over 2300 meals and 2100 care packages and thanks to an army of volunteers who have dedicated over 1500 hours of their own time we have been able to deliver straight to the doors of the people who needed it most.
As we start to reopen our community centres we want to assure the public, our partners and those who hire our facilities that we have been working extremely hard to ensure the centres are ‘Covid Secure’ and that the health and safety of everyone who visits our centres is our top priority.
Our centres, although appointment based, are now open for bookings and we look forward to welcoming people back through our doors slowly. All of our projects too are restarting, and our staff are looking forward to welcoming clients back and they can’t wait to start planning exciting and engaging activities (all adhering to social distancing of course!)
